Soccer Team

When I was a kid, kicking a soccer ball around was pretty much all I did. If someone had told me then that 15 years later I would be playing with men and women, in my typically Brazilian macho way I would have told them to go eat some farofa and leave me alone.  Well, both women and my way of thinking have come a long way, and today I play in a co-ed team here in the San Francisco Peninsula.  Here are the details:

Where: Powerplay, an indoor soccer arena in Belmont (in the Peninsula, right near Oracle).
When: The league starts on 8/3. Games are held on Fridays or Saturdays between 7:00 - 11:00 PM.
What: Indoor soccer - 6 players per team - 3 women and 3 women. A game is two halves of 25 minutes each (no timeouts).
How much: The whole team pays $595.00. Generally it'll cost $40-$50 per player.

More details:

·         There are 9 teams in the current league. This will give us between 8 games, plus another 2 games if we qualify for the playoffs.
·         The best four teams go to the playoffs.
·         Shin-guards are mandatory (I’ll buy shin-guards for those that need it)
·         Turf or flat-soled shoes required - no cleats.

Here are some pictures of one of the ThinkLink soccer team in action:

Will you guys stop moving? Everything is all blury. The 'Trashers' are attacking, and Thinklink is again defending:

Corey waves as a little kid waits for the ball to come his way (he knows it's just a question of time):

Corey, the spider goalie, stops everything with her feet (she forgets she can use her hands and kicks anything that comes her way):

Gabor, I told you you can't use your hands in soccer, but you don't have to play that way!

Here's Jake doing some good old Thinklink defense:

Unfortunately, after committing an ugly foul, he's thrown out of the game for 2 minutes. He doesn't look happy.:

Majik prepares to tackle the small defenseless woman:

But then decides he prefers to dance:

Majik waits for the ball to come his way, while Bill makes sure he's on the opposite side of wherever the ball is:

I didn't really care about the game, I just followed the cute short one around the field:

At the half, here I am just posing. Oh no, I forgot my eyes again!

Notice, Ed in the red shirt, who sometimes tries to pass out for our goalie, and Bill 'The Butcher' who watches in awe as Rudra decides to take a break in the middle of the game. :
